Only October, and already I cannot stand this chill weather. It would not be so bad if this were as low as it would get, but to know this is only the beginning? It's enough to make a man want to close up shop and spend the winter somewhere warm and sunny. But work is never done, and in these cooler months the demand for remedies only picks up. Everyone wants something to ease their cough or their sinuses, to treat their motion sickness during the busy holiday travel, to soothe the pain in their joints that is brought on by cold weather. They want something effective, something "natural," something they may get without the hassle of a doctor's visit and prescription. And who better to provide it for them than me? Perhaps if sales are satisfactory, I can justify taking an extended holiday later next month. We'll see.

Until such time as that happens, it isn't as though there is not plenty of work to keep me busy. The rooftop greenhouse must be locked up for the season, and all of those plants settled in the nursery in the basement for dormancy. There is the drying and storing of select plants to oversee, and both dried and potted plants to be chosen for my brother's latest business venture. Busy, busy.

[Private, visible to Organics]
They've ceased to flower; they've retreated into their roots to wait out the winter within the earth. Must remember to do the same. A brief rest with my plants, connecting with my roots, it will do me good. Might survive the cold without too much hardship.

It took far longer than I anticipated, but now I am finally settled here. Two adorably impressionable young things have been employed at the shop downstairs, and the plants in the greenhouse are positively flourishing. My personal living space above the shop is furnished, the Pensacola condo has been sold, and I have located enough old friend and family members to ensure my social calendar shall never be lacking.

Still, I am bored. Entertainment has never held my interest, no matter the thing, since the last gladiator matches. There was a quality sport.

Had to fire the store lackey, which means I get to run Drake's life and his shop until I find a suitable replacement. There are seeds to be shipped out to customers, grow lights to be purchased for the seedling displays, a greenhouse to build on the roof, and now I'm being told I have to make several dozen cannoli because apparently his entire freaking extended family is in town and he won't rest until he's had them all over for tea (but he's too inept at baking to do it himself). I wonder if they're all as crazy as he is.

ooc: Because overworked assistants are all the rage these days, this is Charles. If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume Mandrake will be his constant.

Well, I can't say as I'm overly fond of you, New York City, but you are so very good for business. Green-living homeopathic-medicine-practicing self-absorbed schmucks on every street corner, it seems like. The naive little monkeys will buy anything if you slap it in some environmentally-friendly packaging and say it's an ancient Chinese remedy. Good place to set up shop.
